of this Northeast Tribal tour will be your interaction with host communities,
where you will learn about and observe their simple way of life and witness a
lifestyle that is rarely found in today's rapidly changing outside world. This
tour includes tribal villages where you can learn about their culture and
lifestyle.
Fly
from Delhi or Kolata to Guwhati, and then check into a hotel. Guwahati is known
as "The light of the East" and is the gateway to the entire Northeast
region. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, and spend the night at the hotel.
Early
morning visit to Kamkhaya Temple, renowned for its strength and enlightenment,
as well as for a bird’s-eye view of Guwahati. Later, drive to Tezpur (175 km).
Sonitpur, as ancient Tezpur was known in the past, is a city steeped in
mythology, legend, and folklore. 'The city of blood' evokes images of the
bloody battle between Hari and Hara and the romantic legend of Usha &
Aniruddha. Overnight at hotel.
After
breakfast this morning, travel 200 kilometres to Dirang (Arunachal Pradesh).
Stop at the orchid research centre at Tipi (Bhalukpong) en route; of the 1,000
orchid species in India, more than 500 are found in Arunachal Pradesh. After
that, visit the Sherdukpen tribal villages in Rupa, which are home to followers
of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism. Spend the night at a hotel.
After
breakfast, travel 100 kilometres to Tawang, the district headquarters. Along
the way, visit Monpa ethnic settlements and Tsela Lake, which is 14,000 feet
above sea level. Spend the night at a motel.
Tawang is the home of Monpa tribes and the main hub of Mahayana Buddhism. After breakfast, spend the entire day at the renowned Tawang Monastery, also known as the "Gompa" in the local dialect. This 300-year-old monastery, which is situated on the spur of a hill at an elevation of 12,000 feet and overlooks a broad valley with towering mountains on all sides. The Brandung Chung Ani Monastery of the Nuns is 12 kilometres northwest of Tawang. Stay overnight at the hotel.
After
breakfast, travel to Bomdila (160 km), the headquarters of the west Kameng
district of Arunachal Pradesh, which is at an elevation of 8000 ft. and is home
to people from a variety of tribal groups, including Monpa, Sherdulpen, Aka,
Miji Bhugun, and Tibetains. Along the way, see the Jung waterfall and the 1962
Indo-China war memorial, "Jaswantgarh." In the evening, visit the
upper and lower gompa (Buddhist monastery), the local maEmporium, Emporium,
etc., and spend the night in a hotel.
After
breakfast, travel to Itanagar (220 km), the capital of Arunachal, also referred
to as "the Land of the Dawnlit Mountains." East of Tawang, Itanagar
has been compared to Mayapur, a city from the 14th and 15th centuries AD. See
the main attractions of Itanagar, which include the Itafort, Buddhist
Monastery, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum, the Ganga Lake (Geykar Sinyi), and
the Zoo. Spend the night in a hotel.
Travel
in the morning to Ziro (100 km). Stop along the way to see the Nyishi tribal
village, Emporium, and local market. The Apa Tani tribes, who may be the most
settled and indigenous people in Arunachal Pradesh, live in Ziro.
Today's
itinerary includes sightseeing in Ziro, Mithun spotting at the
38-kilometer-distance Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, a visit to the new town
of Hapoli, and a visit to the Apa Tani villages for a face-to-face meeting with
the tribes. The Apa Tanis believe in spirits and the deities Donyi-Polo, the
sun-moon god who is supreme. Spend the night in a hotel.
Transfer
to Daporijo (190 km) in the morning; this town is on the banks of the Sipi and
Subansiri rivers and is inhabited by the Tagin, Hill Miri, and AdiEmporium;
visit the local market and Emporium; stop at the Hill Miri tribal hamlet on
route; and spend the night in a hotel.
Spend
the entire day learning about the tribal culture of the Tagin hamlet and spend
the night at the hotel.
In
the morning, travel to Along (100 km), which is on the Siyom River and
inhabited by Galo and Bori-Bokar tribal people. Spend the night in a hotel and
visit the museum, Emporiumrket, and Tribal Village.
Explore
Galong, Bori-Bokar, a tribal town; see the Akashi Ganga Falls; and spend the
night in a hotel at the archaeological monument Malini Than, which is renowned
for its granite images of deities.
Travel
to Pasighat (130 km) in the morning; the area is home to Adis, Minyongs, Padam,
and Passi tribal people; it is the headquarters of the East Siang district and
is situated on the banks of the Siang and Tsangpho rivers in Tibet; the Lali
Wildlife Sanctuary is the area's main attraction. Spend the night in a hotel.
Spend
the entire day taking in the tribal culture at the Padam tribal village's
Pasighat of Adi. Spend the night at a hotel.
After
breakfast, head to the jetty to catch a ferry to Dibrugarh, the tea town of
Assam. Take a country-made ferry across the Brahmaputra, which is the
confluence of the Siang and Lohit rivers in Arunachal Pradesh, which takes
roughly six hours. The ferry service from Pasighat to Dibrugarh is a lifeline
for this tribe. Spend the night at a hotel.
After
breakfast, head to the airport to board a flight to Delhi or Kolkata.
